Philadelphia Eagles vs Minnesota Vikings Preview and Prediction
Sunday's contest between the Eagles and Vikings will pit two teams that are trying to climb up from the bottom of the pile against one another. While the 2-4 Eagles have seen several winnable games slip away, despite veteran leadership, the 2-4 Vikings are going through growing pains with young players in key positions. The teams have other similarities too.
Eagles Take a Step Forward and Beat the Jets 16-9
The Eagles defense has been the steadying element of this turbulent season. On Sunday afternoon, in the Meadowlands against the Jets, the offense followed up its horrid display on the same field 2 weeks earlier against the Giants, with its second winning performance of the year. That performance was made a winner by another strong effort by Jimmy Johnson's defensive troops. This developing unit that is still missing Pro Bowl players Brian Dawkins and Lito Sheppard in the backfield, allowed only 9 points and 286 total yards from scrimmage. They made good the 16 points that the offense scored.
Eagles Stink Up Giants Swamp
On Sunday night, September 30, in the Meadowlands of North Jersey, the NY Giants put a beating on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Donovan McNabb, sacking him 12 times. The injury plagued Eagles were without the services of star running back and Giants killer Brian Westbrook, Pro Bowlers Lito Sheppard, Brian Dawkins and William Thomas.
The Philadelphia Eagles are a professional football team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are members of the East Division of the National Football Conference (NFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The Eagles have won three NFL titles and made two Super Bowl appearances, losing both (in 1980 to the Oakland Raiders and in 2004 to the New England Patriots).
The club was established in 1933 as a replacement for the bankrupt Frankford Yellow Jackets after a syndicate led by future NFL commissioner Bert Bell purchased the rights to a Philadelphia franchise from the league. The Eagles were named after the Blue Eagle, a symbol used for the New Deal stimulus programs initiated during the Great Depression.
Eagles players who have been inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame include Chuck Bednarik, Bob Brown, Reggie White, Steve Van Buren, Tommy McDonald, Earle "Greasy" Neale, Pete Pihos, Sonny Jurgensen and Norm Van Brocklin. Bell was also inducted as a contributor.
