A Beginning

If there were a book about the 'how to of surfing waves for beginners' I would have been the first one to eat it up, but at two years old I couldn't read, didn't know what waves were or surfing, and actually enjoyed playing in my cloth diapers in the white wash that covered the shore. At that age I loved the taste of the ocean. It was like candy for me, calling me back to the water again and again. I loved the ocean, I swam and fished and 'boogie boarded' for the majority of my young life.

The Coolest Sport on Earth?

Surfing is an awesome, exhilarating and exciting sport. It's all about the weather & the waves, the board, the rider, the gear, and the clothing. Find out what makes it so great.

3 Key Elements For Beginners

It's true - a surfer never forgets his or her initial wave. Surfing is the coolest sport ever, but there are several things to consider before you take the ride of your life.

Unaffordable Sport?

Though surfing requires little equipment, the surfboard and the wetsuit can be expensive. The leash and the wax are not really that expensive, especially if you use them carefully and thus don't need to buy extra ones every month. However, affording the purchase of a surfboard and a wetsuit is not for everyone and thus, you'll need to consider your possibilities if you are planning to start practicing this sport.

The Best Wave of My Life and the Lesson I Learned

I learned a fundamental lesson one day when I was walking down to the beach with one of my towns best surfers. There is always someone watching. Here is a tale of my best wave and the lesson I learned.

Surfing is a surface water sport in which the person surfing is carried along the face of a breaking wave, most commonly using a surfboard. Surfing-related sports such as paddleboarding and sea kayaking do not require waves, and other derivative sports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing rely primarily on wind for power, yet all of these tools may as well be used to ride waves.

Two major subdivisions within contemporary stand-up surfing are reflected by the differences in surfboard design and riding style of longboarding and shortboarding.

In tow-in surfing (most often, but not exclusively, associated with big wave surfing), a surfer is towed into the wave by a motorized water vehicle, such as a jetski, generally because standard paddling is often ineffective when trying to match a large wave's higher speed.
