Interview with Alistair Taylor and Karla-Costa Taylor

Alistair Taylor is the Founder and manufacturer of ATD bodyboards and an 8 times and current South African bodyboarding champion. He was a 4 time finalist at the World Bodyboarding championships at Pipeline, Hawaii and won an award for most inspirational performance in the 1998 Pipe World Champs, held in massive 12-15ft pipeline, and placed 4th in the final. Alistair has surfed Mavericks in California at a size where it becomes impossible to paddle in, and waves can only be caught jet-ski assisted (solid 25ft). He was also the winner of the inaugural Cave Rock Gladiator Pit in 2006 and Chairman of the South African Bodyboarding Association.

Karla-Costa Taylor was 1999 Womens World bodyboarding champion and 3x runner up on the World Tour of Bodyboarding (1995, 2000, 2002). Karla was the first and only girl on the cover of Bodyboarding magazine. She has been in more then 50 finals in her entire carer and over 20 titles throughout the World and co-producer of a project that featured women's bodyboarding as well as her life story Karla Costa Taylor in Liquid Doll with the production by Betty Depolito. Karla is a great supporter of the Women's World tour and has been a representative International Bodyboarding Association for the past 4 years. She is aloso a supporter of the Development bodyboarding school in the community of Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (known as the biggest community Slum in South America), a project inspired by professor Lei. This project helps the women in that community to find a healthier life-style by getting into the sport of bodyboarding, and hopefully guiding them to their own personal success.

Jean Ferreira

Jean Ferreira was born in Brazil and is now living in Manhattan, NY. He has been bodyboarding since 1988 and is currently overall Pro Champion by ABA (Atlantic Bodyboarding Association). 6th at IBA (International Bodyboarding Association) Morey-WQT in Kittyhawk/NC-2004. The Top of the Brazilian Tour per 10 years, and 5 Times Overall Pro Champion in Paraiba State in Brazil.

Jeff Hubbard

The bodyboarder of the new era to take airial surfing to the next level. Jeff is known through out the world for his huge airs and airial attack that leaves people dumbfounded. He's one guy you never take your eye's off, if there's a critical section coming his way you better watch out cause that boys gonna fly!

Derek Hulme

Derek Hulme is the Director World Tours for the International Bodyboarding Association (IBA), which is the governing body of world bodyboarding. Around the same time the ISP/ASP tour was beginning to take off. So in 1988 competitors and officials alike began meeting following every Pipeline event to write a set of competition rules that all countries could follow with the hope of forming a world circuit to determine the World Champion. The driving force behind these meetings were the heroes and legends of today. Riders like Pat Caldwell, Jack Lindholm, Alexander de Pontes, Mike Stewart, Ben Severson, Ross Hawke, and Fabio Aquino, met with officials Mary Lee Christensen, Derek Hulme, Tony Abrahams, Phil Smith and Bob Thomas. This was not an easy task but after 4 years, a set of competition rules was finally approved. It was first used by the Honolulu Bodysurfing Club to run the 1992 World Championship and later adopted by all the major bodyboard associations.

Damian King

Damian King is an Australian top bodyboarder, current world champion, beating Brazilian Guilherme Tâmega two years in a row to become the first two-time bodyboarding world champion coming from Australia.

Krista Scott

I always keep my eyes open for interesting people, and Krista Scott just absolutely grabbed my attention. I first met Krista 2 days ago on a whitewater kayaking weekend where she accompanied our group to do our first kayaking lessons on the Ottawa River. In the van she told us that she recently did a 13 month trip to Australia where she did all sorts of harvest work in different locations. She also mentioned that she completed an ESL program at the university and is heading off for her first teaching assignment to Vietnam this fall. I knew at that stage that this was a very interesting young woman and I decided I would get to know her a bit better.

Mike Stewart

Mike Stewart (1963 - ) is a nine time World Champion bodyboarder, one of the early pioneers of the bodyboarding sport, and a pioneer of big-wave tow-in surfing and also a champion bodysurfer.
